Science in a Primitive World

Scene in The Mummy.

When she was Pharaoh 3000 years earlier, she was married to her brother which is, unfortunately, how Egypt chose to solve the problem of finding a social equal for their leader and establishing meaningful intimacy for their leader to sidestep power imbalances and various psychological and emotional problems.

Her brother was gay and her lover and bodyguard. He served and serviced her.

As Diana, she chose to live as a commoner so she could see and experience the problems of the people firsthand. She felt this would be the best means to come up with good solutions.

Commoner women were mostly essentially property of some man, either their father or husband. She needed her independence and self determination. She needed money to support herself.

Prostitution was one of the few ways a woman could adequately support herself independently. It also served another purpose: Making her sexual needs no longer her Egyptian brother's responsibility so he had some hope of coming out as gay and getting a life of his own.

It was more than 1500 years before the earliest proposals of germ theory. She had a "PhD level" of understanding of medical stuff and was surrounded by people with the equivalent of an elementary school education and, unsurprisingly, she was trying to combat one or more epidemics.

She thought if she could just convince people to try her herbs and potions, they would see it works and trying to explain why could come later. Her first order of business was stopping the spread of disease and the high death rate it caused.

With some trial and error, she found that the phrase "Have faith" got results.

To her it meant "Trust me. Just try it. It works. Take a leap of faith and trust in the medicinal potions of a street walker."

To them it meant "God is granting miracle cures to the faithful. God sent me. I'm a servant of God."

Then they felt entitled to her free miracle cures paid for out of her earned income because "It was a gift from God." When she tried to quit prostitution and charge money for her potions to cover the cost, they wouldn't pay it. She couldn't find another way to earn enough money to cover the expenses involved.

She needed to stop the epidemic. She resumed being a sex worker and increasingly lectured people "You're sick because you sleep around. Keep it in your pants."

They didn't feel a prostitute had a right to tell them to keep it zipped. The infections grew increasingly hard to treat.

She began saying "This is you last free potion. Keep it zipped or pay me. This SHIT isn't working."

The people who once adored her grew increasingly abusive. She grew increasingly miserable and saw no way out.

She was murdered but the murder was fostered by the fact that she was suicidal and just wanted the abuse to end and saw no means to both live and stop the abuse.
